Marketing is no longer just about “me”. Marketing is also about “we”. The fact is that marketing is no longer just about “me”. Marketing is also about “we”. The fact is that marketing is no longer just about “me”. Marketing is also about “we”.
If you don’t see it from your marketing perspective, if you don’t see it from the perspective of the people (who now see you as a person who is marketing), then you’re missing out. When you’re marketing to people, you’re not just about me. You’re about them. You’re about the customers.
The marketing world has changed so much over the past couple of years, and it has been a lot of fun watching it evolve. There are a lot of things marketing people don’t talk about, and it’s great to see some of that conversation continue.
The word marketing is often thrown out as a buzzword these days, but it really isn’t. It’s something that many people, myself included, take very personally. Most marketers are also self-employed people, so they are often the most self-aware of the people around them. We’re a lot like the people who make the clothes we wear. Marketing, in a non-brand world, is still viewed as about you and your business, but its not. Its about them.
Being someone who works in marketing, I’m not the best person to talk to about marketing, but I’ve been lucky enough to learn a lot. I’ve seen a lot of marketing, and I’ve seen a lot of bullshit marketing. The marketing world is filled with people who have their own egos and own agendas, and its a tough place to work.
The problems with marketing are that, like so many other things in life, they suck. Ive seen companies who have never worked with marketing, run marketing in their own little business and run into problems. You need to have enough self-knowledge and self-control to know when youre in the wrong place, when youre making a bad choice, when youre just being lazy and not really marketing.
It always comes down to self-awareness, and how people use their brains to get things accomplished. So if youre doing it on autopilot, you can only end up with mediocre marketing. This concept was used to great effect in the movie “Pulp Fiction”.
The movie is all about the man who got in trouble for shooting a rival of his. The problem with that is that the man can only think about the pain in his own mind. In order to get the pain out, the man shot himself in the head and then just thought about it for about 20 minutes before he started to feel the pain. You see this quite often in marketing.
In marketing, the same principle applies. Thinking, “Okay, I’ve got four products I think are going to be successful” leads to mediocre results. The problem is that you can’t be sure that you’re thinking about the product in the best possible way. You don’t really know what you have until you get it and then you can’t get it any better.
But that’s not the problem. The problem is that with every decision you make, you make a decision that you have to be sure you will not mess up. That is why you have to review your processes.
