In horizontal marketing, the vertical marketer is the marketer’s salesperson, so the goal is to reach the marketer in the most effective way possible. The same way a doctor should go to see a specialist for a job, a vertical marketer should visit his industry’s top salesperson for advice on how to best serve his audience. When you’re selling a product and you have no brand awareness, your salesperson should be your eyes and ears for the consumer. So while the horizontal marketer might be able to pick up new clients, it will be the vertical marketer who will have to figure out the best way to market the services they offer.
