This week I’m going to do a little refresher course on the different types of marketing and what types of marketing work well together.
Marketing is the process by which a business attempts to convince a public that it is worth buying its product. Marketing is done by creating a “brand” that is distinctive, identifiable, and understandable to consumers.
Marketing is often referred to as “branding.” In general, marketing is a multi-faceted process by which a company attempts to generate awareness of its brand and create a sense of identification with that brand. However, it is also a very broad term, and one that can be applied to a vast array of activities. There are a wide variety of ways to market an idea or product. The very common and most obvious is through advertising.
In the case of “public policy” marketing it refers to the marketing of government-sponsored programs, contracts, and services. This is an important marketing activity because it helps to establish and reinforce a brand. In the case of “marketing” it refers to any form of marketing (advertising, press releases, etc.) that is undertaken by a company for the purpose of selling products or services.
But marketing is not all that important. Advertising is. One of your goals in marketing is to get your product into the media. In the case of a government-sponsored program, for example, you want to get the news out. In the case of marketing it refers to any form of marketing advertising, press releases, etc. that is undertaken by a company for the purpose of selling products or services.

In the previous sentence, we are talking about the word “advertising” which is a term that refers to the actions of companies, e.g. a newspaper article, and in this case, to the actions of government programs, which are the programs that are funded by the government. It is the government’s responsibility to determine what kind of advertisements should be put out.
The term marketing is used when talking about the actions of companies or the actions of governmental programs. A marketing agency is a company that promotes products or services, but it is not the same as a government agency. The government agency that is involved in marketing is called a marketing department. A marketing department is the government agency that is responsible for marketing products or services. A marketing agency that is not involved in marketing is called a marketing department.
